The Project Purpose
Look At Me Grow! Project is Part C Early Identification Grant funded through Minnesota Department of Education. Grant Number PO 45794. It is awarded to Northern Lights Special Education Cooperative. Districts of the Cooperative include Barnum, Carlton, Cloquet, Cromwell, Esko, Hermantown, Lake Superior ISD, McGregor, Moose Lake, Proctor, Willow River and Wrenshall. NLSEC is collaborating with Early Childhood Family Education program, county public health agencies and local Head Start agencies for this project.
By reaching out to identify all children, birth through 12 months, who would benefit from early childhood programs and services, the grant partners will improve the identification of children with developmental delays or at-risk for developmental delay.
There are two major project components during 2006-2007:
An outreach activity: early childhood providers will direct mail a resource kit to all parents of newborns. A follow-up telephone call will be made to each recipient encouraging them to review the materials in the kit; to ask questions about parenting resources; and to participate in local infant/parent classes offered by early childhood agencies.
An information activity: a website is developed for families to easily access county and school resources. It will have links to creditable state and national organizations who address growth and development of very young children, typical and atypical; to download parenting materials; and participate on a Discussion Board.
